Chapter Twelve

Šílené’s breath caught. Reece was submitting to him, offering up his throat willingly. “Are you sure?” He hated to ask, but he had to know Reece understood the gravity of his actions. Once Šílené claimed him as his mate, there would never be any going back.

They would be bonded for eternity.

Šílené wished he had kept his mouth shut when Reece leaned back. He should have just taken what the man offered. When Reece gripped his jaw, Šílené’s misery was so great that he could barely bring himself to look the man in the eyes.

“I am sure, Šílené,” Reece replied in a firm voice that brooked no argument. “I was sure back in the woods, and I would have claimed you then, but I felt the need to ask the same question you are asking now without the heat of the moment weighing on us.”

“Oh.” Tears sprang to Šílené’s eyes at the memory of all the heartache he had gone through over the last three weeks, thinking Reece had rejected him. “It was my fault. It was all my fault. If I had just stuck around and—”

Reece’s quick kiss smothered the rest of Šílené’s words.

“There is no blame, baby. If I had spoken up instead of falling asleep, then you wouldn’t have felt rejected and left.” Reece’s smile was a little bit sad, a little bit self-depreciating. “We both can learn a lesson from this.”

Šílené wagered a guess. “Don’t run off if we don’t understand something?”

Reece’s smile grew into a grin. “And remember that the important things need to be discussed before taking a nap.”

“I promise,” Šílené said solemnly before returning Reece’s smile.

“I promise, too, little alpha.” Reece tilted his head again. “Now, claim me.”

Šílené breathed out as he sank his fangs into the soft curve of Reece’s throat. Warm, coppery liquid flooded over his tongue and blasted his senses. Šílené groaned as the spicy, hot flavor exploded in his mouth, giving him a sense of Reece’s innate nature.

Šílené felt like crying when a sudden warmth filled his entire body and he could feel Reece, not only physically, but emotionally and mentally. The bond had formed and even now was strengthening with each draw of blood. Their souls merged, becoming one. From this moment on, they would be bound together forever, never to be apart.

Šílené had been so afraid it wouldn’t happen.

He carefully withdrew his teeth and licked the bite wound closed before leaning back. He couldn’t seem to pull his eyes away from the small bite mark. It was a wonder, drawing him in and blocking out everything else.

“Little alpha.”

“Huh?” Šílené glanced up.

Reece grinned. “You need to answer the door.”

“Why?”

Reece pressed their lips together for a quick kiss. “Because I don’t think they are going away.”

“Who?” Šílené frowned in confusion. Reality slammed into him a moment later in the form of a very loud knock on the office door. “Damn.”

Reece chuckled. “Answer the door, baby.”

“It’s against my better judgment,” Šílené said as he walked over to the door. He sniffed the air before opening it.
